As marina infrastructure ages and market trends shift, many marina operators are finding the need to improve their infrastructure and reallocate slip mixes to meet the current market demand. However, with limited water space to work within, increased boats sizes, new code compliance and regulatory issues such as eelgrass, it's a challenge to rebuild. This presentation will discuss an environmentally friendly constraints approach analysis to conceptually laying out a marina. Design considerations such as existing infrastructure; Federal, State and Local code compliance; wind, waves and current forces; and sensitive species will be discussed. Case studies will be utilized to demonstrate how the various design aspects are interrelated and need to be considered upfront in the rebuilding process.
