The Marine Recreation Association's 47th Annual Educational Conference and Trade Show embarks on October 22, 2018 at the Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort in Santa Barbara, California while overlooking the picturesque coastline of the Pacific.

The 2018 MRA Educational Conference theme will be "People, Purpose, and Passion - The Pathway to Success". The marine industry is re-emerging today into a new world of possibilities and potential. By focusing our passion and people on shared purposes we can all create a steady path to successfully navigate the challenges ahead.

This year's Conference will feature a broad prospectus of industry experts and information covering key marine industry management, operations, and marketing concerns, focused on team building and improving guest services and operations to enhance customer satisfaction, and optimizing the challenges of regulatory compliance and fiscal results. The marine Trade Show will feature the latest technology, products, and services from leading industry vendors and contractors focused on industry growth and profitability. The three day event will provide all participants with the ideal opportunity to network with other industry professionals and share effective strategies for successfully dealing with an ever-evolving business environment.

Special hotel rates are being offered to attendees from October 19th to the 27th, providing an extended opportunity to enjoy the many shops, restaurants, wineries and exhibitions that Santa Barbara offers.

The three day Conference will kick off on Monday, October 22nd, with three special events:

  • The "Introduction to Marina Operations" seminar, designed to enhance industry knowledge and skills for new marina and boatyard owners, managers, and employees.
  • The 6th Annual MRA Marina & Boatyard Tour will visit the City of Santa Barbara Marina including tours of Stearns Wharf, 500-slip Marina One and take attendees on a fireboat tour of the harbor and East Beach Anchorage
  • The 24th Annual MRA Golf Tournament will tee off at the Sandpiper Golf Club, an inspiring combination of challenge and beauty as championship golf brings you to the edge of the Pacific Ocean.

A Welcome Reception will be held for all attendees and guests in the Conference Trade Show in the Grand Ballroom. Regular Conference seminars, Trade Show exhibits, and other events will continue Tuesday through Wednesday, with an evening of special entertainment, food, and beverages Tuesday night.

Measuring over 7000 yards, with championship rating of 75.1, Sandpiper has challenged the abilities of the PGA and LPGA players alike, playing host to several professional tournaments including: The PGA Tour Tournament Players Series, The LPGA Tour Santa Barbara Women's Open, and the prestigious final stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying school.

Santa Barbara Harbor lies on California's beautiful south-central coast, the last harbor before rounding Point Conception on your way north. Home to over 1,140 recreational boats and commercial fishing vessels, it is a gateway to the Channel Islands. Three separate tours will be offered and timed so you can enjoy all three.

Take a walk on 1,900-foot Stearns Wharf, home to myriad businesses and attractions, from fish restaurants to the Ty Warner Sea Center and retails shops-all that makes the Wharf the most popular destination in Santa Barbara.

Take a fireboat tour of the harbor and East Beach Anchorage, where you'll see the harbor's working commercial fishing fleet, recently renovated small-boat launch ramp, a permitted mooring area and more.

Stroll through a recently reconstructed 500-slip Marina One and learn techniques employed to create a state-of-the-art docking system.

The cost for this important series of introductory seminars is $89 per attendee and includes lunch. The morning session will cover Introduction to Basic Marina Operations: Policies & Practices, discussing such topics as boatyard and marina best management practices, leasing and administrative policies and practices, and providing top-flight customer service. The afternoon session will provide critical information related to Introduction to Basic Marina Operations: Safety & Maintenance, including how to assess and manage risk in a marine environment, marina and boatyard maintenance and safety policies and practices, and emergency management planning and practices. This is a session that all new marine industry managers and key employees should plan to attend.

Regular Conference events and activities will begin at 8:00 am Tuesday, October 23, 2018 and conclude at 3:00 pm Wednesday, October 24, 2018.
